Did we not see the digital era coming — and the role that identity would play?

The looming challenge of digital identity and the Internet of Things has not yet entered the policy context and narrative of service delivery, at least in Australia.

As the former Chief Technology Architect of the Access Card program, I am concerned that current approaches to digital identity are based in the past and will not work in the digital era for the decades ahead.

I propose a framework for the adaptation of digital identity for this century, and that must include a view of the future.
