"NADIA - A CO-DESIGNED REVOLUTION LOST IN THE AFTERMATH OF ROBODEBT”
There are many untold stories of the RoboDebt catastrophe, and this is a big one.
A timely article on the 10th anniversary of the NDIS and on the release of the RoboDebt Royal Commission Report.
“It struck me, after speaking to two key participants in the project, that Nadia was about far more than technology. It was a project that was co-designed from its inception and fuelled by a rights-based commitment to full inclusion and accessibility. Lived-experience perspectives fed into the design process in real time. A wide range of views, coming directly from the disability community, played a direct role in determining what was made.
Nadia gave us a glimpse not only of the way that technology can be shaped by community for community – nothing about us without us – but the way service delivery as a whole can be genuinely shaped by the community that is being served. It was the antithesis of that technology - tweaked in bureaucratic backrooms to achieve ill-gotten gains through misinformation - which will go down in infamy under the title of Robodebt.” Editor: Rob Donnelly
Brilliant creative effort by Rob Donnelly and the Canberra Disability Review Team - thank you 👏 👏 👏
I will be telling the full inside story in my forthcoming book “Nadia: Politics | Bigotry | Artificial Intelligence”. Don’t miss out.
