2021 Patron of the Tech Girls Movement Foundation
I am THRILLED and honoured to be the 2021 Patron of the Tech Girls Movement Foundation.
Founded by my great friend Dr. Jenine Beekhuyzen OAM, the Tech Girls Movement was launched on 8 March 2014 (International Women’s Day). Designed to get girls interested and engaged in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths). With research saying that girls opt-out of STEM at 6 years of age, mainly in part due to a lack of visible female role models and a lack of understanding of what STEM professionals do.
Really chuffed and a wee bit excited to be part of this phenomenal movement. SUPER excited to be created as the superhero “Mentoria.
Meet “Mentoria”
My superhero name Mentoria originates from the “Mentor” in the Odyssey in Ancient Greek mythology.
In the Odyssey Athena took on a disguise - a ‘face’ - and shape-shifted into a “wise” version of Mentor, to provide encouragement to the young Telemachus against some bad dudes.
Mentoria’s superpower is helping others who might be young or different stand in the sunshine to realise their potential and to overcome the naysayers.
Mentoria says she prefers the “edge” because it’s uncomfortable and that’s what sparks innovation.
